It was cinco de mayo 2011 when I got that unexpected phone
call just thirty minutes after my ct scan. I had just walked thru my front door
and sat down on the sofa when I heard my family Dr’s voice say “You have
adenocarcinoma”. It was as though he spoke in Japanese; I had no idea what that
meant. “You have pancreatic cancer” and I thought to myself, did you just say
the c-word? He asked me if I had any questions and given that I was in shock, I
replied no and hung up the phone.
It then occurred to me I didn’t even know what the pancreas
was, what it did or if we even needed one to function (you do by the way). I
also didn’t know it was the worse cancer to get or that the five year survival
rate was less than five percent. What I did know was that I could not leave my
two sons without a mother. I imaged what their lives would be like without me
in it and it scared me to tears. At that very moment, I beat cancer.
Six months of weekly chemotherapy, 13 hours of Whipple
surgery and three weeks in the hospital later I was cancer free! Although I am
still in recovery and not back to work, I am cancer free! After watching the
movie “The Rookie” and hearing Dennis Quaid say ”You can do what you love until
it’s time to do what you were born to do” I realized I do love selling real
estate but there is something even more important that I need to do with my
second chance at life. God did not put me on this journey with cancer for just
the fun of it, he put me on this path to help others. I really did learn
everything I need to know about success from cancer. It is my hope to share
this knowledge with you and help you get from where you are to where you want to
be.
